Prof. dr. Reinout Wiers

Prof. dr. Reinout Wiers studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam and received there his doctoral degree, passing cum laude, with his research on risk factors for addiction. In 2002 N.W.O. gave him the VIDI-grant for a research on implicit processes in addiction.
Currently, Wiers is professor of Development Psychopathology at the University of Amsterdam. His research area refers to the (neuro-)cognitive processes involved in the origins of addiction behavior. In the lab Wiers and his colleagues look at changes in the brains of people developing addiction behavior. They try to directly influence these processes in order to study the causal status.
