Voordat hij in januari 2009 bij Prosensa begon, was Schikan werkzaam als vicepresident global marketing & strategic development voor Genzyme, ten bate van de portfolio van geneesmiddelen voor zeldzame ziekten. Daarvoor werkte hij gedurende zeventien jaar op diverse posities bij Organon. Tijdens zijn functie als general manager van Organon Nederland was hij tevens voorzitter van Nefarma, de Nederlandse vereniging van de innovatieve farmaceutische industrie.

Hans Schikan holds a PharmD degree from Utrecht University and is CEO of Prosensa, a young biopharmaceutical company in Leiden. Before joining Prosensa in January 2009, he worked at Genzyme, most recently as Vice President of Global Marketing & Strategic Development for the rare disease portfolio. Prior to Genzyme, he was with Organon for 17 years in various executive roles. While he was General Manager of Organon in the Netherlands, he was also Chairman of Nefarma, the Dutch Association of Research Based Pharmaceutical Industry.
