Gädeke is associate professor in social and political philosophy at Utrecht University. Her main expertise lies in the republican tradition of political thought and critical theory. As a scholar of republicanism, she is also interested in Hannah Arendt and her widely acclaimed and nowadays still often discussed book The Origins of Totalitarianism. 

Gädeke’s research focuses on the intersection between structural injustices, power and domination and democracy. In her first monograph, she analyzes how democracy promotion in some countries has reverted into a politics of domination. Currently, she works on the role of resistance in understanding freedom.

Gädeke's onderzoek heeft een focus op structureel onrecht, macht en democratie. In haar eerste werk analyseert zij hoe de promotie van democratie in sommige landen is vervallen tot een politiek van overheersing. Momenteel schrijft ze over de rol van verzet in het vrijheidsbegrip.
